$100 is not a lot to spend on Super Bowl XLI fun,
especially since it all goes to Doernbecher Hospital

One of the heavy-duty Super Bowl XLI parties Sunday is the one sponsored by Arch and Nancy Miller and Tony and Nancy Bacon on behalf of Mr. Hudson’s Bay Pageant contestant Joe Clark.

                Joe Clark

Clark talked Miller into helping get Food Services of America, International Air and Hospitality Academy, Corwin Beverage/Pepsi Co., Aaron’s Sales and Lease, The Restaurant at the Historic Reserve and the Daily Insider to provide almost everything needed to put together for the function that begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, in E. B. Hamilton Hall, in the Red Cross Building, 605 Barnes Street in Vancouver Barracks.

Almost everything includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, bottled water and soft drinks. Drinks from a no-host bar are separate from the package, which is $100 per person, the entire amount of which will be turned over to Doernbecher project on behalf of 12 Hudson’s Bay High School seniors.

The Hudson’s Bay Pageant project in 13 years has raised $430,000 for the hospital. This year’s goal is $100,000.

For further information about the Super Bowl party and the pageant, call Clark at 619-2278.

C-TRAN moving toward renewable energy

C-TRAN is believed to be the first transit agency on the west coast to use B100 biodiesel fuel in a bus, according to C-TRAN board director Tim Leavitt. Leavitt said that the bus using the renewable energy source, vegetable-based oil, will not emit any carbon or sulphur dioxide.

C-TRAN will also begin using B5 biodiesel on the rest of its fleet, according to Leavitt. The transit agency retrofitted its fleet in 2006 to accommodate low-sulphur diesel fuel.

In addition, C-TRAN is retrofitting exhaust systems on all buses to reduce 40 to 50 percent of harmful emissions.

In 2008 the agency will take delivery of 12 forty-foot electric hybrid buses.
