Nelson Holmberg named Port of
Vancouver communication manager

Nelson Holmberg, former Columbian and Oregonian staffer, has been named communication manager at the Port of Vancouver, reports port executive director Larry Paulson.

Most recently, Holmberg was senior account manager for Koopman Ostbo Marketing Communications in Portland. Holmberg is a graduate of Hudson’s Bay High School and Washington State University.

Holmberg has 18 years’ media and public relations experience, including the U.S. Navy, Washington State University, thePacific-10 Athletic Conference and the Northwest Public Power Association. He is a member of the board of the Clark County Family YMCA, Clark College Penguin Athletic Club and the Columbian Readers Advisory Committee.

RiverWalk on the Columbia architectural
features to be shown at open house

Architectural features of the proposed $300-$400-million, 65-acre RiverWalk on the Columbia will be shown to the public for the first time at an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in the Port of Camas-Washougal administration office, 24 S A Street, Washougal.

The development of waterfront property in Washougal would be a partnership between the port and the private corporation, RiverWalk on the Columbia LLC. Partners in the corporation are Marilee Thompson, Rick Bowler, Mark and Mary Benson, and John and Nancy McKibbin.

The proposed features of the mixed-use development on the riverfront owned by the port are being proposed by a 13-member committee appointed by the port to come up with the “wisest and best long-term use of waterfront resources.”

The proposed development is patterned after other regional waterfront projects, including the highly successful Tidewater Cove in Vancouver. The development would include residences, retail and recreational facilities, a marina and a possible hotel, and would preserve historic sites, according to the developers.

County prescription drug discount
program saves $60,000 in four months

Since the introduction of Clark County’s free prescription drug discount program began four months ago, county residents have used the cards to fill 5,443 prescriptions, receiving an average discount of 24.5 percent per prescription. The average savings per prescription was $10.91.

The free cards can be picked up at nearly all county pharmacies and at other public locations, including the county Center for Community Health.

There are no forms to fill out. Cardholders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by local insurance.

Ninety-two percent of the pharmacies in Clark County accept the cards.

The free prescription drug discount cards are available through a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties, according to county commissioner Marc Boldt. For further information, call (877) 321-2652. Prescription prices can be checked by going to http://naco.advancerx.com.
