Statesman Al Bauer will discuss book
prior to election results at Clark College

Former state senator Al Bauer, whose political career spanned 30 years in Olympia, will discuss his recently published book From Fairview to Salmon Creek: A Community Spirit, on general election night, Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the Penguin Student Lounge in the Penguin Student Union on the Clark College campus.

Bauer’s 7 p.m. presentation precedes election results, which are expected to be posted at 8:30 p.m. in the student union building. Bauer will also take questions and sign copies of his book.

Net proceeds from the book will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Washington and the Clark College Foundation.

The just-published book focuses on how compassion towards community can lead to greater things. Clark College president Bob Knight said, “On a day when we’re electing leaders and deciding issues that are vital to our future, it is a privilege to welcome Al Bauer, a statesman who has given so much to our college, our community and our state.”

Bauer Hall, on the Clark College campus, was named for the former senator, who also taught school in Clark County for 20 years. In 2000, then Gov. Gary Locke named Bauer “the Education Senator from Washington State.

Bauer has also been honored as an Outstanding Clark College Alumnus, and in 2001 he received the First Citizen Award from the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington.
