Fromhold not running for re-election

State Rep. Bill Fromhold (D-39th), who will complete eight years in the state legislature this year, announced today that he will not run for re-election, citing the demands of his new job as executive director of Vancouver-based Mentoring Advanced Placement.

Fromhold said he will complete his current term, which expires in December. The state legislature goes into a short 60-day session later this month.

“I’m announcing I won’t be a candidate for this year’s election now so that those who might have an interest in the job won’t have to wonder whether I am running.”

Fromhold’s wife, Marcia, who has served as interim Executive Director of MAP since August 2007, will be MAP’s assistant executive director.

Scott Keeney, President/CEO of nLight and MAP Chair, said recently, "Their depth and breadth of experience and relationships in education, along with a keen focus on academic rigor and outcomes, is exactly what we need to expand our programs across the state."

MAP is a new program that supports higher standards of math, science and English in the classroom. The statewide program is supported by grants that currently are in excess of $13 million.

Fromhold, former superintendent of Education Service District 112, has since held a variety of executive leadership positions in education and business, including positions with the Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, Evergreen School District, Seafirst Bank, and Weyerhaeuser.

Fromhold is chairman of the House Capital Budget Committee and is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.

Fromhold will be holding a legislative town hall meeting from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 12, in the 6th floor hearing room in the Public Service Center.

Southeast county property being appraised

Appraisers from the Clark County Assessor’s office will begin making on-site inspections of property for purposes of establishing tax values for 2009 taxes, reports Mike Webber, residential appraisal manager for the assessor’s office.

Properties to be inspected are generally east of I-205 to the Camas city limits, and in

Vancouver, north of Mill Plain Boulevard to the city’s urban growth boundary.

Appraisers usually do not need access to property or structures, but if access is needed, property owners will be notified in advance.

Property in Clark County is appraised on a six-year cycle.
