Herrera elected assistant
floor
State Rep. Jamie Herrera (R-18th), serving her second term in the Washington State House of Representatives, has been elected assistant Republican floor leader. Herrera will work with Republican floor leader Dan Newhouse. Herrera is also the assistant ranking Republican on House Health and Human Services Committee Appropriations Committee, and is a member of the House Transportation Committee and Technology, Energy and Communications Committees.
Workforce Development Council Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council and its partners helped more than 500 local businesses find skilled employees, and placed some 1,800 adult jobseekers and laid-off workers in jobs last year, according to Lisa Nisenfeld, executive director of the council. Emergency response training offered People interested in serving the community during a disaster are being offered emergency training by the Vancouver Fire Department and Fire District 6. The training, which culminates in awarding Community Emergency Response Team certification, consists of disaster preparedness, fire suppression, medical treatment, light urban search and rescue, disaster psychology and terrorism awareness. Puppeteer training available Kids on the Block, a nonprofit program that presents free educational puppet shows in local schools, is seeking new volunteers for training, according to county representative Nancy Gaston. An orientation session is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the First Presbyterian Church, 4300 Main Street in Vancouver. Training sessions will be held this winter. News briefs IQ Credit Union is offering a $10,000 reward related to two credit union robberies that occurred on January 7 and 12 in the 601 E 16th Street branch. Vancouver police are also asking help in locating the gun-wielding robber, who was caught on camera both times. The male suspect is described as white, in his late 20s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with blue or green eyes.
