Val Joshua Racial Justice Awards were presented to Jamie McCoy and Richard Twiss in ceremonies yesterday in the YWCA Clark County. In addition, Soar International was given the first YWCA Youth Social Justice Award. McCoy is the pre-school director of Learning Avenues Child Care Center. She is also president of the Vancouver Heights Methodist Church Council. Twiss is the president and founder of Wiconi International, an organization that works to help Native Americans become leaders in the Christian Church. Soar International helps eradicate landmines in Vietnam, helps students in Rwanda and helps provide school supplies to homeless children in the Vancouver-Portland area.
County seeking applications
for Applications and nominations for appointments to the new Three Creeks Advisory Council are being sought by the board of Clark County commissioners. The council will assist with transportation, land-use planning and related issues for the Three Creeks Special Planning Area, which includes unincorporated urban areas around Hazel Dell, Felida Lake Shore, Salmon Creek and the county fairgrounds. Lasher announces tax foreclosure auction Two residential pieces of property are expected to be offered at a property tax foreclosure auction at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the commissioner’s hearing room in the Public Service Center, reports county treasurer Doug Lahser. New members of SWWDC The Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council has added eight new members on its board of directors, according to Lisa Nisenfeld, executive director.
