Pistor lives in Salzburg, Austria, with her husband and daughter but is a native of Portland and graduate of Portland State University. She won Metropolitan Opera auditions and continued a career from Austria and has sung throughout the world. Her parents live in Kalama. Music director Salvador Brotons will conduct this weekend’s concerts at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17, and 7 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in the concert hall in Skyview High School, 1300 NW 139th Street. Bravo! Vancouver presents Bravo! Vancouver presents a concert version of Meredith Willson’s The Music Man at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 S Andresen Road. The acclaimed musical is the story of con-man Harold Hill who sells band instruments to parents of children in River City under the guise of creating a marching band. Hill falls in love with Marian Paroo and his scheme, but ultimately not the romance, unravels. Michael Kissinger, Bravo! Vancouver artistic director, conducts the Washington Chamber Orchestra for the performance. Soloists are New York baritone Charlie Baad as Harold Hill and Seattle soprano Mary Jo DuGaw as “Marian the librarian” Paroo. Admission is $20. Jennifer Rhoads, vice president, First Independent, has been promoted to head the bank’s Wealth Management Group, reports Brett Bryant, First Independent executive vice president. Rhoads joined First Independent in 2004 as a senior financial advisor. She has 12 years’ banking experience and is a graduate of Washington State University. Currently Rhoads is enrolled in a certified financial planner program. A Vancouver native, Rhoads is treasurer of the Vancouver School District Foundation and is a lunch buddy at Martin Luther King Elementary School. C-TRAN to provide
transportation C-TRAN and the Amphitheater at Clark County have teamed up to provide bus transportation between the amphitheater at the Clark County fairgrounds and the Salmon Creek Park-and-Ride for events this year in the amphitheater Service from the park-and-ride begins 90 minutes preceding each concert and continues every 15 minutes until the concert begins. Return service begins immediately after each show and will be given priority exit from the parking area. Connecting service from the park-and-ride is not available, however. Round-trip fares are $2 per person or $4 for groups of up to six riders. C-TRAN day and monthly passes will also be accepted. The Amphitheater is also offering premier parking passes for $25, plus service charges. Rush headlines the first concert of the year at the amphitheater at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1.
