Dozer Day, an ultimate fun day for kids and parents

Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. is Dozer Day—where kids drive huge mobile construction equipment to raise money for Vancouver Parks Foundation.

The location is at the CEMEX/Rinkler Materials site, 18208 SE 1st Street, between 172nd and 192nd Avenues. Admission is $10 for adults, and $8 for children under 13 and seniors over 60.

The rides are for kids, but they can be accompanied by parents.

Rides include the following: articulated haulers, Campbell cranes, earthmovers, fire trucks and remote controlled concrete pumpers. Other events are face painting, a kids dig, a dig for tools, a tire crawl, and snacking on food and beverages.

In the midst of the large operational earth-moving arena is a park, put together by Frontier Landscaping. The Nutter Corporation is a primary sponsor of Dozer Day.

Skills Center Announces Apprenticeship Pact with City

The Clark County Skills Center today announced an agreement with the City of Vancouver to create apprenticeship opportunities for Skills Center graduates. The agreement maps out the entire entrance process from the Skills Center to apprenticeships and on to employment with the city.

The program will be adopted and implemented through the joint efforts of the City of Vancouver, AFSCME Local #307VC and Teamsters Local #58. The apprenticeship will establish and provide industry defined training, education and employment necessary to become a state certified journey level worker in the identified occupations.

Skills Center programs impacted by today's agreement include Construction Technology, Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Electro-Digital Technologies, Legal/Medical Office Applications and Pre-Engineering Design Technology.

Currently, the Skills Center has apprenticeship agreements with the Willamette Carpenters Training Center, the National Electrical Contractors Association, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the Western Oregon and Southwest Washington Regional Painters Apprenticeship Training Center, the HVAC & Metals Institute and the Firestop Containment Workers Apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship is generally a four-year program designed for an individual to learn the skills and knowledge of an occupation by attending related classes while working with and learning under the direction of a journey level expert
