Kurt Creager to head Arizona housing organization

Kurt Creager, former executive director of the Vancouver Housing Authority, has been appointed director of the Stardust Center for Affordable Homes and the Family in the College of Design at Arizona State University in Tempe.

Creager most recently was senior vice president of housing development for CDK Partners, Phoenix, and heads his own company, Urbanist Housing Solutions.

Prior to coming to Vancouver, Creager was chief of housing and economic development for King County. A graduate of Western Washington University and the University of Washington, Creager was a Fannie Mae Fellow in the State and Local Public Executive Program in the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He is a former president of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials and currently is a member of the organization’s board of governors.  

1860’s cannon salute in the barracks
commemorates Memorial Day Monday

A cannon salute, 1860s style, will honor the nation’s war dead at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 26, on the Vancouver Barracks parade ground just east of the O.O. Howard House.

There is no charge for viewing and hearing the black powder demonstration presented by the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. For further information, call 816-6230.

Leroy Haagen Memorial Community Park
phase 2 construction nearly complete

Phase 2 construction at Leroy Haagen Memorial Community Park, on the west side of NE 136th Avenue just north of the Firstenburg Community Center, will be completed in June.

The park currently features trails, landscaping, soccer fields, open lawn and parking lots. Phase 2 construction adds a combined restroom and covered picnic shelter, a large playground, picnic tables, benches, and basketball courts to the park.

Columbia Credit Union opening

Columbia Credit Union is opening its second branch built to Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design standards Monday, June 2. The first is the credit union’s Washougal branch, which opened in April. This newest branch is in the Grand Central retail development just off Highway 14 at Grand Boulevard.

The newest branch will replace Columbia’s Heights Branch, 5403 E Mill Plain Boulevard.

Columbia Credit Union has $789 million in assets and serves 64,800 members from 12 Clark County branches.

Summer activity guide now available

The summer 2008 Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation activity guide is  available online. The guide contains information on family fun, classes and camps for the kids. Go to www.vanclarkparks-rec.org, for further information.

Three-month summer youth passes are available for the Firstenburg Community and the Marshall Community Centers. Passes for college age students are $89. Passes for students, 4 through 18, are $49. For more information, call Firstenburg Community Center at 487-7001 or Marshall Community Center at 487-7100.
