Peter Frampton headlines
Friday’s Hot July Nights

Entertainer and musician Peter Frampton headlines Friday’s opening of KC Fuller’s Hot July Nights in Esther Short Park. Gates open at 4 p.m. Admission is $35.

Norman Sylvester opens at 4:30 p.m. Following an 8 p.m. introduction, Frampton comes on at 8:30 p.m.

Frampton, born in England, became a U.S. citizen just after 9-11.

Saturday’s Hot July Nights headliner is the perennial 1960s singing group the Beach Boys. Opening for  the Beach Boy’s 8 p.m. concert is local favorite Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts at 6 p.m.

The final Hot July Nights performance is a special concert by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra under the direction of guest conductor Ron Daniels. Featured soloists are vocalist Katie Harman, Miss America 2000, and violinist Aaron Meyer.

Clark Public Utilities ranked highest
in customer satisfaction in the west

In a report issued today by J.D. Power and Associates, Clark Public Utilities ranked highest in customer satisfaction for residential electric service among midsize electricity providers in the western United States. Midsize utilities in the report serve between 125,000 and 499,999 residential customers.

This is the first time the utility has been included in the study. Clark Public Utilities also scored fifth highest in the nation for residential customer satisfaction regardless of utility size or region.

The study, designed and independently financed by J.D. Power and Associates, is a standardized measure of satisfaction available for the electric residential utility industry. Based on about 35,500 online responses from residential electric utility customers throughout the U.S., the study compared 120 electric utility brands, collectively serving some 92 million households.

Clark Public Utilities’ overall highest ranking in the west midsize segment is based on its strength in power quality and reliability, price, billing and payment, corporate citizenship, communications, and customer service, the study found.

Byron Hanke, president of the utility board of directors, attributed the utility’s unmatched success in the study to the strong performance and dedication of utility employees, as well as close ties the utility has had with the community for 70 years.

Clark Public Utilities is a customer-owned public utility district that provides electric service to more than 181,000 customers throughout Clark County. The utility also provides water service to more than 30,000 homes and businesses in the Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Lakeshore, Hockinson, Brush Prairie, La Center, Meadow Glade, Amboy and Yacolt areas.

Bank of Clark County reports
strong growth, earnings

The Bank of Clark County reported today that the bank had strong growth and higher  earnings during its second quarter ended June 30, 2008.

Mike Worthy, the bank’s president and chief executive officer, reports that the bank's loan portfolio increased by 12.3% so far this year and also had strong deposit increases from local clients.

“We are very excited about our deposit increases in recent months, already growing more than all of 2007,” Worthy said.

According to Worthy, loan growth came from segments other than construction and development loans, further diversifying the bank's portfolio.

Worthy credited much of the deposit growth to the opening of the bank’s East Clark County Branch in March 2008.

Overall, the bank achieved record levels of assets and capital by June 30, 2008. Earnings were $0.96 per share for the 12 months ending June 30.
