Gregg Herrington named Battle
Ground
Gregg Herrington, Clark County native, who has been an editorial writer, columnist, political reporter and an editor at The Columbian for the past several years, has been appointed to the new position of director of communications for the Battle Ground School District, reports district superintendent Shonny Bria. Prior to coming to The Columbian Herrington worked for The Associated Press in Washington, D.C., Seattle and Olympia. Herrington is a graduate of Clark College and the University of Washington, where he was editor of the university daily campus newspaper. Salmon Creek As part of its grand opening celebration, First Independent’s Salmon Creek banking center, 2515 Salmon NE 134th Street, is offering free paper shredding and recycling from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. Free recycling includes Styrofoam and infant, toddler and booster car seats. The full-service Salmon Creek branch is First Independent’s first green LEEDs Certified office, according to Ron Bertolucci, First Independent vice president and branch banking director. Linda Barber, senior vice-president of member services and human resources at iQ Credit Union, has been named chair of the Washington Credit Union Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Washington Credit Union League. Barber, who received the WCUL’s Mark of Excellence Award in 2007, has over 30 years of experience in financial services, and has been active in the foundation for the past six years. Barber also serves on the boards of Financial Women International and Vancouver-Clark County Parks Foundation. She also served on the Evergreen School District’s marketing committee. Vancouver gets prestigious The City of Vancouver has been recognized for its use of performance information in the management of the city, with a “Certificate of Distinction” Award from the International City/County Management Association. Vancouver's award was one of only thirty given to local governments nationwide. The only other Washington city recognized was Bellevue. In receiving the recognition, city manager Pat McDonnell said, “This award recognizes the hard work of the entire city, including the mayor and city council as well as every employee.” The ICMA is a worldwide organization that promotes professional local governments by providing training and professional development to more than 9,000 cities, towns and counties. Marshall Center offering Beginning Sunday, Oct. 5, the Marshall Community Center, 1009 McLoughlin Boulevard, will offer free swimming from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month, says Johnie Tucker, special activities coordinator. The first Sundays of each month are called Sunday Fundays and offer free activities, crafts, gym, and game room activities for families from 2 to 5:30 p.m. For further information, call 487-7100. Clark County chamber The Clark County Chamber of Commerce is presenting local candidates for public office with a Candidates & Issues Forum from 7 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the NW Baptist Center, 1200 NE 109th Avenue.
