Vancouver Symphony Orchestra sets 2009 Concert
Schedule Maestro Brotons returns and Portland flutist Dawn Weiss is guest
artist in first performance of 2009
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra continues its
30-year Celebration season Saturday, January 17 and Sunday, January 18
with a program highlighted by the talents of Portland flutist Dawn
Weiss.
Maestro Salvador Brotons, now in his 18th
season as music director and conductor, returns to lead the symphony
through a program that will include Concerto for Flute and Orchestra by
Carl Nielsen and Symphony No. 10 in E minor, Op. 93 by Dmitri
Shostakovich.

All performances are held at Skyview Concert Hall, 1300 NW 139th St.,

Vancouver Symphony hosting "Fashion to a Tea"
December 4
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will perform at its
annual fundraiser on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Hilton Vancouver Washington
during "Fashion to a Tea."
The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
and is hosted by The Friends of the Vancouver Symphony. The vent
includes sea, of course, in addition to a sit-down lunch, holiday
decorations, a silent auction and a runway fashion show.
Tickets are $50 and can by purchased by calling the

"Many people are not aware that ticket sales for the
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra only account for 20 percent of the revenue
required to operate the orchestra," said VSO president Celia Gesting.
"Going into the holidays, this annual event is a great way to make new
business contacts in a very relaxed and enjoyable way."

Camas School District seeks
Health Advisory Council members
The Camas School District is seeking eight
individuals to serve on the district's Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC).
Ideally, the volunteers would have a background in comprehensive school
health education, physical education, nutrition, a healthy school
environment, health promotion for staff, or family and community
experience. Specifically, SHAC is seeking parent, teacher, and community
representation from the following schools: Lacamas Heights Elementary,
J. D. Zellerbach Elementary, Prune Hill Elementary, Skyridge Middle
School, Liberty Middle School, and Camas High School.
SHAC consists of about 20 school district stakeholders who advise school
administrators and board members on a variety of health and fitness
issues. Meetings are held once a month during the school year.
Interested citizens are encouraged to send a letter of interest, and

"Best-In County"
awards December 9
The Clark County Chamber of Commerce will host its
annual Best In-County Awards from 7 to 9 A.M. on Tuesday, Dec. 9. at the
Hostess House, 10017 NE 6th Avenue. The event is free and open to the
public.
The Chamber will present awards to outstanding
organizations in Clark County having "successful, innovative business
programs in the areas of visibility, networking, public advocacy,
business services and training."
