Kelly Odiorne named
BIA’s events director

Kelly Odiorne has been named the new events director of the Building Industry Association of Clark County, the organization’s executive director, Avaly Mobbs, has announced. Odiorne will organize and supervise all BIA events, including the annual Clark County Parade of Homes, the Southwest Washington Tour of New Homes, Clark County Remodeled Homes Tour and the BIA Membership Golf Tournament. Odiorne will also be responsible for the monthly BIA general membership dinner meetings.

Odiorne, who received a B.A. from the University of Virginia, most recently was event coordinator of the Classic Wines Auction in Portland.

Citing Odiorne’s “extensive experience in coordinating a variety of regional promotions and events,” Mobbs predicts that she will create a new level of excitement and growth for the BIA’s events.

The BIA is a 922-member trade association representing the interests of all businesses in Clark County involved with land development and construction.

Vancouver family named
March of Dimes ambassador

Erika Landon and her (at 26 weeks) prematurely born triplets, survivors Vivian and Levi and their brother, Eric, all of Vancouver, are one of four area families that have been designated by the Greater Oregon Chapter of the March of Dimes as ambassador. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, March of Dimes is the leading U.S. nonprofit organization committed to improving the health of babies by funding research aimed at preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. <Somehow, Tony, it seems wrong in this instance to expunge the boldface from the deceased child’s name.>

Vivian and Levi today are five years old. As an ambassador family, the Landons will share their experience at various special events, corporate meetings and fundraising activities.

According to the children’s mother, “If it weren’t for March of Dimes and their work pioneering the use of surfactant,” which helps babies breathe, “we wouldn’t have the babies we have.”

The other three families chosen as ambassadors by March of Dimes’s Oregon chapter are the Fogles of Portland, the Irwins of Salem, and the Randalls of Silverton.

Three Creeks planning council
looking at planning, zoning proposals

Clark County’s Three Creeks Advisory Council will examine site-specific requests for changes to planning and zoning designations for properties within the Three Creeks Special Planning Area at a meeting from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, April 9.

The meeting will be open to the public, at the offices of the Clark Regional Wastewater District, 8000 NE 52nd Court, in the Hazel Dell area.

The meeting will cover presentations on behalf of property owners, in addition to information from county staff.

After discussions of site-specific requests, the council will hear follow-up presentations by the Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council on high-capacity transit and by C-TRAN on its 20-year transit development plan.

Mount St. Helens Institute
recruiting volunteers

Dedicated to awakening in people of all ages an appreciation of the natural processes and cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest’s volcanic landscapes, the Mount St. Helens Institute relies on volunteers for most of its conservation and science education projects and courses. The Institute is currently seeking volunteers.

Needed are “Volcano Volunteers,” who are trained to interpret geology at sites around the mountain and in their local communities, and “Mountain Stewards,” who provide visitor safety and resource protection along trails. Conservation projects also need 1- and 2-day volunteers.

Those interested in volunteering can find additional information at the Institute’s website at www.mshinstitute.org or by e-mailing info@mshinstitute.org.

Getting fax wrong

One could hope the Insider’s regression is ending. Twice in the past ten days we have given readers fax telephone numbers where telephone numbers should have been offered. Most recently we gave a fax number instead of a telephone number for those interested in applying for a Clark County position on the Vancouver-Clarks Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission. Further information on the position can be had by calling Jennifer Clark, 397-2232.
