Nancy Denny & Dana
Ostenson
Southwest Washington Medical Center nurses Nancy Denny and Dana Ostenson have been honored for maintaining certifications as critical care nurses for 30 straight years. Denny began her career in critical care 42 years ago and has been with Southwest for 35 of those years. Ostenson followed in her mother’s footsteps in nursing and began her career as a nurse’s aide and has been a critical care nurse for over 35 years—more than 30 years at Southwest. Since 1979, the two nurses have consistently maintained CCRN certification through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. They are two of 108 CCRNs honored this year nationally by AACN for their continuous certification.
Nearly all Battle Ground
Of 77 Battle School District certificated personnel who received reduction in force letters in May, 73 have been offered jobs in the district, although some in different schools, some teaching different subjects or grade levels and some in part-time rather than full-time jobs reports Marcia Christian, the district’s human resources director. It is still possible that some or all of the remaining four also will be offered jobs, she added. However, there will be approximately 32 fewer certificated positions in the Battle Ground district in the 2009-10 school year, resulting in slightly larger class sizes and some courses offered fewer times per day or not at all. Those details won’t be set until closer to the start of the school year on Sept. 9.
