Coldplay starts The Amphitheater’s 2009 summer concert series tonight with a traffic alert from WSDOT Kicking off The Amphitheater’s summer series this evening is Coldplay’s sold-out concert. With that is WSDOT’s estimate of an additional 6,000 vehicles on I-5 and I-205 in both directions. WSDOT leaves us with these recommendations: Drivers should expect backups and delays to begin by 4 p.m., and local commuters are encouraged to use alternate routes. WSDOT recommends that northbound event traffic use two different exits Exit 9 (NE 179th Street) and Exit 11 (SR 502).WSDOT recommends drivers use Exit 11 for northbound event traffic on I-5. Drivers should stay in the left lanes until they pass Exit 9, and then exit the interstate two miles north at Exit 11. Drivers can then turn left (west) onto SR 502, cross over I-5 and come back southbound on I-5 to Exit 9. Northbound event traffic on I-205 may stay in the right lanes and use Exit 9. WSDOT recommends that local commuters consider alternate routes, such as SR 503. Check The Amphitheater’s website for alternate methods of travel, including their Yes Program: www.amphitheateratclarkcounty.com. Gather at least four of your friends or family, download the Yes Program windshield sign and be rewarded with prime parking and egress after the event. Parking lot opens at 5:00 p.m. You’re invited!
