Demolition Derby at Clark County Fair

A demolition derby show takes place this evening at 7 p.m. in the Clark County Fair grandstands. The first 1,000 people through the gate will receive a free gift from Sobe Lifewater.

Fair hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. tonight through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, Aug. 9-13, and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Aug. 14-15. Carnival opens at noon daily. Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors 62 and up, $5 for children 7-12, and children under 7 are free. Cost for parking is $5.

Live Nation welcomes Pearl Jam to the Amphitheater

Pearl Jam is playing at the Amphitheater at Clark County at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, with special guest Ben Harper and Restless7.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, livenation.com, or may be purchased over the phone by calling 800-745-3000.

Tickets are $66 for reserved seating and $29.50 for general admission and lawn seats.

Seton Catholic High School opening to coincide with bicentennial

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic College Preparatory High School will be the first new Catholic high school in Southwest Washington in over 40 years, and it will open its doors on Tuesday, Sept. 8th, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of Catholic education in America.  Archbishop Alex J. Brunett of the Seattle Archdiocese named the school and will visit Seton Catholic on Sunday, Sept. 27, to bestow a special blessing on the new campus located at 811 NE 112th Avenue.

Seton Catholic is a faith-based school that emphasizes a college preparatory curriculum and leverages technology as an integral part of the learning process. Students will each receive a Macintosh notebook computer loaded with e-textbooks for core courses to provide portable, easy access to their textbooks and assignments.  Each classroom is equipped with document cameras and interactive white boards.

Pitch in to help build YWCA community garden on Sunday, August 16

YWCA Clark County invites the community to join YWCA staff and volunteers for a Community Garden Work Party at 10 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 16. The work party is the first step in creating the YWCA Community Garden, funded by Umpqua Bank’s Click for a Cause campaign.

During the Sunday work party, volunteers will help build the raised beds. Volunteers are asked to bring sunscreen, work gloves, water, and if they have one a power drill. The YWCA is located at 3609 Main Street. No gardening or construction experience is needed. The YWCA will provide building materials and refreshments.

Registration open for workshop on business disaster preparedness

The Clark County Local Emergency Planning Committee and Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency will present the Strive to Survive Disaster Business Resilience Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, at the Vancouver Hilton.

The workshop is free and will feature presentations by geologists, public health and safety officials, and business disaster planning specialists who will discuss earthquake, pandemic influenza, and other hazards that may greatly impact the private sector in Southwest Washington.

County commissioner presented proclamation in honor of Dairy Women’s 50-year-milestone

The Clark County Dairy Women celebrated their 50th Anniversary of participation at the Clark County Fair with a special proclamation given by County Commissioner Marc Boldt earlier this morning at 10 a.m.

Merry Woodside, a long-time member of the Dairy Women, explained that there are 8-10 actual Dairy Women, but more than 150 volunteers help during the fair each year. Celebrating 50 years means a lot to them.  “It’s overwhelming, but it’s been part of our lives for a long time now, Woodside exclaimed.  “We’re part of the fair and we love it!”
