Carnegie Library centennial event: Andrew Carnegie Live! Carnegie libraries have many architectural features in common, such as a large staircase and grand entry to symbolize how acquisition of knowledge and culture elevates a person. The lamp posts symbolize the enlightenment that knowledge provides and the use of brick or stone indicates that knowledge is strength. It also showed the intent of the library’s role as a lasting pillar of the community. The Clark County Historical Museum is located at 1511 Main Street in Vancouver, WA.The Clark County Historical Museum will be presenting Andrew Carnegie Live! (George Dauler plays Carnegie) during the week of October 6-10, with a series of ten performances that are free and open to the public. In an effort to celebrate the museum’s double anniversary year of the building, which is 100 years old, and the museum’s being 45 years old, and to make museum programs accessible to a broad audience, the Clark County Historical Museum has partnered with four branches of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library System, the Camas Public Library, and the Washington State University History Department to provide performance venues in eight different locations. The performance schedule is as follows: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main Street, Vancouver, and at 7 p.m. in the La Center Community Library at La Center Community Center, 1000 E. 4th Street; 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Woodland Community Library, 770 Park Street, at noon at the Vancouver Rotary, and 7 p.m. in the Vancouver Community Library, 1007 E. Mill Plain Boulevard; 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Goldendale Community Library, 131 W. Burgen; 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main Street, and at 7 p.m. in the Camas Public Library, 625 NE 4th Avenue; 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Washington State University Vancouver Campus, ADMIN 110, and 2 p.m. at Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main Street. The 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct.10 WSUV performance is open to the public but is a special presentation that is also tailored for high school and college-age students interested in pursuing a career in acting or in re-enacting historical characters. Marshall Public Leadership Award nominees announced Sixteen Clark County residents have been nominated for the General George C. Marshall Public Leadership Award. The nominees are as follows: Katherine Benson, Camas; Phillip Haberthur, Battle Ground; Travis London, Washougal; Rebecca Parker, Ridgefield; Pamela Callahan, Cara Cantonwine, Carrie Beth Farrell, Amanda Gordon, Bart Hansen, Lindsay Herling, David Hodges, Temple Lentz, Natalie Pacholl, Lisa Schauer, Brian Stewart and Megan Patrick-Vaughn, Vancouver.
