Leadership Clark County names two to board VaNessa Duplessie (left) and Maija Mercer (right).Leadership Clark County (LCC) elected two community leaders in October to its 20-member board of directors. The board oversees the non-profit’s operations and events, in addition to its ten-month leadership training curriculum. New members, who will serve three-year terms, include VaNessa Duplessie and Maija Mercer. Duplessie is a general partner with Ridge Partners, LLC, where she provides marketing and public relations services to companies, primarily in the data storage industry. She holds a bachelors of science degree in small business management/entrepreneurship from San Francisco State University. Additionally, she is licensed in health and life insurance in both Washington and Oregon, and certified as both a social media specialist and personal development coach. In the community, she serves as vice-chair of the Washington State Citizens Committee on Pipeline Safety, and as an advisory board member for the Clark College Center for Leadership Excellence. An alumni of the 2005 LCC class, she also was recognized as the 2006 Marshall Public Leadership Award recipient. Mercer is a regional manager for Holland Residential, a west coast company that specializes in developing and managing multi-family communities. Headquartered in Vancouver, she oversees Oregon and Northern California regions as a property manager. In the community, she serves on the board of managers for the Clark County Family YMCA. An alumna of the 2006 LCC class, she was also recognized as a 2005 Accomplished and Under 40 Award recipient. Clark County seeks volunteers for Citizens ADA Advisory Committee The Board of Clark County Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Citizens ADA Advisory Committee. Application deadline is 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 7, 2009. The committee ensures that County facilities, programs and activities meet standards set by the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and are accessible to everyone. The panel consists of four volunteers, the Clark County ADA compliance officer and a Clark County Community Development plans examiner. Committee members should be available to assist in program and separately scheduled service reviews during regular business hours. Members serve a two-year term beginning January 2010 and meet at 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Licensing board recruiting for Collection Agency Board vacancy The Department of Licensing is recruiting for a vacancy on the Collection Agency Board. The open position is to be filled by a member of the general public with no family or business connection with the collection agency industry. The board members are appointed by the governor. The Collection Agency Board members work closely with Licensing on disciplinary actions and collection industry issues. The board consists of five board members who serve four-year terms. Walk and Knock volunteers needed throughout county Preparations are underway for the 25th anniversary year of Walk and Knock, the community’s largest annual food drive, which is run by volunteers from service organizations such as Lions, Kiwanis, Optimist, Rotary, and Clark County Amateur Radio Club. There is no paid staff. In order for the program to cover Clark County in a single day, volunteers are greatly needed for this year’s event, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5. “Last year, Inter-service Walk and Knock gathered over 140 tons of food and over $35,000 that was used to purchase food,” stated Joe Pauletto, the event chair. “This year, we are celebrating 25 years of service and we are working to break our record of 155 tons.” “In this recession our local food banks need more support than ever before,” Pauletto continues; “it’s amazing how far one paper bag full of canned food will go.” For more information or to sign up to volunteer, visit www.walkandknock.org or call 877-995-6625.
