The Camas Educational Foundation's (CEF) 9th annual Phone-a-Thon
brought in $21,000 in pledges to fund innovation and curriculum
enhancements across the district. These funds will be distributed to
teachers, staff, community members, and students in the form of
mini-and major grant awards.
For three evenings from March 2 and March 4, over 100 middle and
high school students phoned over 1000 households across Camas to ask
for donations. CHS Key Club and Math/Science Academy students worked
alongside students from Liberty and Skyridge Middle Schools.
Teachers, administrators, CEF volunteers, and Camas School Board
members lent a hand to supervise, organize, and feed the student
volunteers.
"It was very exciting to work with enthusiastic student callers and
a supportive Camas community," said
Marybeth Johnson, the CEF board member who led this year's
effort. "It was especially encouraging to witness firsthand the
value that the Camas community places on education."
Community sponsors including Kohl's, Mansur Financial, Nies
Insurance, Camas Produce, Georgia Pacific, Twilight Pizza, Riverview
Community Bank, The Stewart Group, Safeway, and the Camas-Post
Record supplied volunteers, funds, food, and materials to ensure a
successful event.
