Jim Muir hired as Clark County’s
chief building official

Jim Muir, Washington County building official, has been hired as chief building official by the Clark County Department of Community Development.

In Washington County, Muir worked his way up from building inspector to plans examiner to building supervisor. As Washington County’s building official, he supervised a staff of 66 employees. Muir also had been a private contractor for ten years. He is a graduate of the University of Phoenix.

Clark County remains one of the fastest growing counties in the northwest. Last year, the county staff reviewed plans for over half a billion dollars in new construction and conducted over 75,000 building inspections.

Tonight’s concert has international flavor

Florin Totan, conductor of the Romanian Valcea Philharmonic Orchestra, is guest conductor of the Clark College Orchestra in its free concert at 7:30 p.m. tonight in The Royal Durst Theatre in the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics.

The piano soloist is Antonio DiCristofano, Grosetto, Italy.

The concert includes Schumann, Bartok, Borodin and Enescu.

As part of an international exchange, Clark College Orchestra music director Don Appert will conduct the Valcea Philharmonic Orchestra later this month in Romania, and in October he will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica Citta di Grosetto in Italy.

While the concert is free, donations will be accepted at the door for the Clark College music scholarship fund.

North county properties getting reappraised

Appraisers from the Clark County Assessor’s Office has begun physical inspections of residential property in rural areas of Clark County north of Vancouver and in rural areas around Ridgefield, La Center, Woodland and Battle Ground.

The physical inspections are exterior observations of properties that will be used to identify changes to land or building characteristics that might affect value. Property photographs will also be updated. Land records and assessed values will be changed, as appropriate, following the inspections.

The Assessor’s Office physically inspects one-sixth of the county’s residential properties each year.

Farmers Market opening
in
Columbian parking lot

When the Vancouver Farmers Market opens its 15th season at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 26, it will be opening in a temporary location in The Columbian’s parking lot, just two blocks of its regular location on Esther Street next to Esther Short Park.

The market will pay the Columbian $5 a month for the privilege. When some current market vendors move to permanent year-round facilities in Esther Short Commons facing their former location, they will be paying $800 a month each.

Reconstruction of Esther Short along the west side of the park precludes the market from being there until mid-summer.

Auditor Greg Kimsey celebrating
St. Patrick’s Day with supporters

Clark County auditor Greg Kimsey will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in Club Green Meadows, 7703 NE 72nd Avenue.

Everyone is welcome, including children, says Kimsey of his annual fundraising function. He says great food and libations are on tap and musical entertainment will include Irish step dancers. For further information, call 521-6685.

Women Who Weld art piece to be reviewed
by Vancouver Cultural Commission today

The piece of art, which would be part of Vancouver’s  August 2005 commemoration of World War II, would

be placed along the Columbia River waterfront. Vancouver was one of six communities in the United States designated as official sites for the national commemoration.
